Exploring Pixilation

Whilst looking for inspiration for my own Pixilation, I came across this one by student Joe Weller. I think it has a good concept and I really like the jerky kind of effect to it rather having a pixilation that runs so smoothly that it just looks like a recording. I also think the way he has intergrated his pixilation with illustration (Mario part) works really well as does the ending.

We were shown the music video for the Peter Gabriel song 'Sledgehammer' in class which featured a great display of pixialtion, claymation and stop motion.  While I was watching it in class I couldn't stop thinking that I'd seen an old song's video very similar to it before (I wasn't just thinking 'wow, I hate this song').
That's when I remembered this video for Talking Heads' 'Road To Nowhere'. I looked into it and found out they're probably so similar because they were directed by the same guy - Stephen R. Johnson. I really like the unusual side to this video and I think the pixilation is done really well. In comparison to the Sledgehammer video, I think they both show good examples of pixilation animation but I think its more fitting for the Talking Heads' track.
