Environmental Storytelling

Here is a background from the Disney film 'The Emperors New Groove'.
For inspiration, a group of concept artists visited Peru before designing anything and I think this really shows. The designer Colin Stimpson said that before designing them, they wanted to create a fantasy place that no one had ever seen before but not historical in any way.
I think they've done a really nice job of it. Its very simplistic and I like how they haven't used any harsh black outlines.

I really like this background for the Winnie The Pooh films. Its really kept in with the feel of E.H. Shepard's original illustrations and the dainty outlines and pastel like colour palette really give off the innocent vibe that makes this background instantly recognisable.

Pixar are known for their attention to detail on even the nitty gritty things. I think this environment image from Ratatouille is beautiful. The lighting of dusk over Paris really sets the scene and the amount of detail in the buildings of the city show how much effort has been put into this.
