This is the music video for the 1985 song 'Money for Nothing' by Dire Straits. The video features early computer animation to illustrate the lyrics. Mark Knopfler of the band was very anti-video but MTV was pushing for its release as it would attract so many viewers with this style. As computer animation was in its infancy and this was one of the first things to feature the use of animated human characters the video was considered ground breaking at the time. Ian Pearson and Gavin Blair created the animation, using a Bosch FGS-4000 CGI systemand a Quantel Paintbox system. The video also included stage footage of Dire Straits performing, with partially rotoscoped animation in bright neon colours. I think it's really interesting to see how far computer animation has come from this video.
