Ceramics Workshop

On 24/2/14, we had our first introduction to the ceramics workshop.
After briefly being shown around, we were asked to sketch a character who we could then make an armature for.
I decided to go for the fish that I had designed for a previous module.
Making an armature involved twisting some wire to make it strong enough to hold its form in the model, and cutting and bending some metal rod to make the arm that the model leans on and attaching it to the board.

We then added milliput to the parts of the figure that weren't to bend (such as the fins), everything but the joints that needed to move really. We also made eyes out of the milliput so that we can move them if we were to animate them.

Once the milliput had dried, we moved onto adding plasticine. Before we did this however, we were told to put plaster over the milliput as the plasticine wouldn't stick to it.
Once the milliput had been covered, we then added the plasticine.
Paper towel added to give bulk.

Fins added on with wire then covered with plasticine.

Detail added (scales etc)
I can't say I overly enjoyed the model making. It's something thats never particularly been of interest to me. However, I'm glad I've had experience with it in case I decide to do something involving it in the future.
